Hmmmm blogging, I must confess that the first time someone told me this is what they did as a hobby I thought, “Wow, what a lame way to spend your existence”. Since that time my views have altered, but only slightly. I have come to see it as a channel with which people funnel their creativity, a place where they can fulfill the inherent desire of mankind to design, organize, and enjoy the fruit of labor.
However, I myself desire a more visual, nay, a more tangible form of expression. Something I can get my brain and hands into and work on with all the ardor I have, something that will leave neither without calluses and fresh knowledge.
To be honest, I find blogging a poor modus operandi for enjoyment or mental stimulation. But before ye of the blogging guild slam down your laptop lids in disgust or start the lengthy procedure of powering down your windows operating CPU with dudgeon, hear me out.
I have no desire to “knock” your beautiful opuses or to degrade your method of expression, I am merely stating where I stand on the matter. Who is a better man? The one who only finds beauty in (what he views as) the best of things or the man who finds it in everything? I believe it is the latter. I enjoy all your wonderful blogs. You guys are the bomb.
So now you’re asking why am I writing a blog at all? I’ll tell you.
1. To glorify Jesus Christ, the maker of all things both fair and foul

Well, there you have it. I’ll clarify a few things before I conclude my first contribution to the unending pile of words the world has stored up for centuries. The name of my blog comes from and old saying, meaning, in essence:
Hard physical work, esp. vigorous polishing or cleaning : you should be able to get the rust off with a wire brush and elbow grease.
In my life, everything (in the human sense of everything) seems to revolve around effort. It comes into play everywhere, in work, in school, in play, in dealing with pain, in choosing to obey my Father (God), in choosing to do nothing, in hanging on and letting go, in sacrifice and accepting the sacrifice of others. This blog is (Lord willing) going to be a chronicle of the wonderful things God will give me in which to try me and to grow me; the stories (and maybe the pictures) of the fights He’s given me to win and the tasks He’s allowed to me to undertake in order that He may be glorified by my exertion and unending determination to live for Him.
…. And who knows, it may motivate you to get up off your nates and use a little elbow grease on the sticky gears of this life.
